Research Center of Fisheries and Aquaculture (HAKI)

The Research Center of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Hungarian acronym is HAKI) is an internationally-recognised research and training centre that belongs to the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE).

The research work of the institute focuses on providing scientific basis for the development of various fish culture technologies, as well as the proper use and protection of the aquatic environment. The three major fields of research are: aquaculture; aquatic ecology; and fish biology.

The institute has participated in numerous aquaculture and fisheries development projects in Asia, mainly in Vietnam and Laos. HAKI has provided training and technical assistance programs regularly for professionals in the Asian region in the framework of bilateral cooperation and FAO projects

The motto of the institute: ’Research, development, training and extension for the responsible use and protection of our aquatic resources, the development of healthy feeding and improvement of life quality.’
